The world of marketing and advertising has changed. Nowadays, advertisers want to be able to measure the results of their marketing campaigns. This type of tracking information is easily accessible from digital advertising such as websites and email broadcasts, but not as easily obtained for print advertising.
Our July/August issue is being delivered just in time for one of the busiest travel seasons of the year. We all should take some time off to relax and see the world. If your clients need a reason to go, we have compiled a list of some travel quotes for you to use in your marketing pieces, on your social media pages, or just for your own inspiration.
I have been very amused by personality quizzes that have been popping up in my Facebook newsfeed lately, most of them originating from www.buzzfeed.com “What Gemstone Are You?” and “Which Fictional Villain Are You?” are some of the most recent that friends have shared. I kept my comments to myself when a close friend’s result revealed that she was the wicked witch! Despite the silly titles and fun nature of these tests, sometimes the results are surprisingly accurate.
As this is the March/April issue, I can only hope that by the time this publication reaches your desk, the winter weather has moved out, and that conditions have improved. JAX FAX is located in Connecticut, where many residents are waving white flags of surrender because of all the snow we have received this winter. We have closed our offices twice due to bad road conditions, and several of our clients - even those in the southern states - have done the same. The best interest and safety of employees comes at a price though - with loss of revenue and production, and operating expenses that do not cease due to inclement weather.
Happy 2014! As you can see, there have been some big changes to JAX FAX. For 2014, each issue will come to you in the form of two magazines-
Destinations by JAX FAX and Getting There by JAX FAX. Each will be published on a bi-monthly basis, delivered to you 6 times a year. Our intention is to provide our valued travel agent readers with even more comprehensive information needed to effectively sell travel to your clients. We have made some changes, but are still JAX FAX - enhanced.
Last year, JAX FAX celebrated the fact that we have been published for 40 years. There are an impressive number of places that will be commemorating anniversaries and historic events during 2014, and many ceremonies and festivities are planned to mark these occasions.
Yesterday when driving around town, I saw that the holiday lights were being put up on the big pine tree on the nearby green. I was stunned that they were doing this already - it is not even Halloween as I write this! Yet, sooner than later - the holiday season will once again be upon us. And, it will all begin with Thanksgiving - a day we share with family and friends, good food, perhaps a parade and a little football. Some of us are lucky enough to have a four day weekend. It is always good practice to take pause and think of all the things we have to be thankful for, and this time of year gives us a reminder to do so.
As the editor of JAX FAX, I am thankful for so much. I sincerely appreciate our faithful readership - some of whom have been subscribers for decades, and have been witness to all of the transformations JAX FAX has gone through during our forty years in print.
A crisp snap has been in the air these past few mornings, forcing me to acknowledge that yet another change in season is upon us.
Like the weather and the seasons, the business of travel always seems to be changing. There are new resorts, hotels, tour packages and airlift announced every day, and travel trends seem to change regularly as well. What is hot today might be old news tomorrow. The history and architecture of the top destinations remains the same, but how travelers experience those destinations is continually being upgraded, in an effort to provide new and unforgettable experiences to both new and veteran travelers.
When you read JAX FAX, hopefully, you are being transported by words to the destinations featured in each article. You are probably not thinking about where our offices are located. Our headquarters are located in Milford, Connecticut and we have many writers in the tri-state area - which was recently affected by Hurricane Sandy, and one week later, by a Nor?easter which brought an unexpected 10 inches of snow to the region.
In previous issues, we have touted our success in working with an intern, who we later transitioned into a permanent employee. Our editorial assistant, Arielle Feger, has recently informed us that she will soon be moving on. She will be relocating, and has accepted a new position. We wish her all the best in the future. With gratitude for all of her assistance over the past year and a half, I am going to turn my editorial page over to her for this issue.
