None of the headlines about travel will stop your most intrepid clients from traveling internationally. They are willing to brave travel bans, fluctuating exchange rates, and even health and medical warnings. But, what about your clients who are not as willing to throw all caution to the wind? How can you best serve everyone?
When I get rid of something that I no longer need, especially a lot of things, I feel a sense of clarity. It is as though my mind was subconsciously cluttered with stuff. A new year is a great time for a purge. It’s become an annual tradition here at JAX FAX!
Here we go again! Another change of seasons, another time change, and another wardrobe swap. So many things in life depend on the season, and it also affects your travel business.
In case you did not know, JAX FAX sends out emails to our subscriber base, in hopes of bringing you “news you can use” in your business. If you are not getting these emails but want to, visit www.jaxfax.com, and click the newsletter sign-up button!
The annual JAX FAX Guide to Host Agencies accompanies this issue. Our goal with the distribution of the host guide is to educate and inform agents of all of the options available to them when seeking a host agency, or even when considering a change.
Sometimes, when our magazine pages are finally off to the printer, I wonder how we managed to get everything done in time; from story assignments, to sourcing photos, to ad sales, to design and layout - not to mention all the behind the scenes administrative stuff. It truly takes a team to get it all done, and there is great comfort in knowing that together we create a product to be proud of, and one that helps so many travel agents meet the needs of their clients.
Not only are travel agents competing for business from online travel agencies, there is also healthy competition between travel agents themselves. As with most businesses, not all are created equally - some have advantages over others, but travelers don’t know what makes your business stand apart unless you tell them. How can you make your agency shine brighter than the rest, and be the best in this business that you can be?
If we asked someone what type of worker you are, would they answer that you spend too much time at the office and could be considered a workaholic? On the other hand, could someone call you a "slacker" and get away with it? Perhaps you are one of the few people who have found a really good balance of personal time and time spent working. I hope so!
The end of the year draws near, making it a time to reminisce, but also to look ahead. This is the last issue of JAX FAX for 2015, so of course we are reviewing what stories and industry information we reported on during the year, and also, making our editorial plans for 2016, our 44th year of publication.
JAX FAX’s Caribbean editor and I were recently discussing the contrasts in the destinations covered in this month’s Caribbean articles. She pointed out that while Cuba is Spanish, Bermuda is British. Bermuda is quite familiar with welcoming Americans, yet Cuba is brand-new to tourism from the United States.
