Selling India - Strategies for Travel Agents

Written by

ai135x165Because of its enormity and the diversity of its terrain, infrastructure and culture, travel to India can be an immensely rewarding experience for travelers, and a daunting one for travel planners. Despite its massive appeal, most travelers are not likely to book India on their own, which gives travel agents an incredible opportunity to assist them.

Mimi Campbell, a travel agent with Santa Barbara Travel Bureau has been to India only once, but that was enough for her to come away with a true appreciation for its vibrancy and the warmth of its people. “No matter what,” she says, “your clients are going to have an adventure and see and experience the real culture.” Campbell believes that India is a place for any traveler “who wants to see something out of his comfort zone and out of this world,” noting that her clients come back blown away, with stories of people who fed and cared for them, of spiritual awakenings and desires manifested as if by serendipity. Expect that not everything will go as planned, but know that this unpredictability and the good fortune that often follows is what “will ultimately be the things that travelers remember most.”

As the pace of new builds slows, there has been a steady growth in refurbishments and enhancements. Among the notable refurbs in 2013 was Disney Magic’s comprehensive makeover, which included replacing the Mickey Pool with a new water fun zone and water slide and total revamping of deck-top areas, restaurants and children’s clubs.

Buenos Aires Booming City

Written by

LUXRegarded as “The Paris of South America,“ Buenos Aires is experiencing a tourism boom, attracting more business and leisure travelers to Latin America’s hottest destination. Famous for its rich European flavor, it also offers stunning architecture, superb cuisine, legendary nightlife, and fashionable shopping. Not to mention world-class soccer and the famed game of polo. Argentina’s vibrant, cosmopolitan capital is also an important cruise destination. The cheap peso means luxury for less with everyone taking note. Additionally, Buenos Aires is gay friendly. The tango hub of the world is ideal for clients seeking glamorous, lively, gastronomic destinations. It is fast becoming the ‘chic’ city to visit in 2014.

Our intention is to provide our valued travel agent readers with even more comprehensive information needed to effectively sell travel to your clients. We have made some changes, but are still JAX FAX - enhanced.

From Baby Boomers to Millennials - The Future of Travel

Written by

Doug
During the first decade of the 21st century, travel industry pundits were touting the coming of age of the baby boomer generation. This generation, we were told, had the desire, time and income to travel and most importantly, was predisposed to using travel agents. Today’s baby boomers are between the ages of 50 and 68 and probably represent a large share of the average travel agency’s clientele, and a disproportionate share of agency revenues.

The Glorious Gulf Coast

Written by

USASand dunes, slot machines, shrimp served up in seemingly endless ways, and Southern hospitality. The Gulf Coast is much more than that, of course, including resiliency and history.

The Gulf Coast suffered mightily from Hurricane Katrina in 2005. A storm surge as high as 38-feet in spots reached as far as 12 miles inland from New Orleans and across Mississippi, devastating everything in its path - from high-rise resorts to Antebellum homes and fishing boats. Tourism is as important to the Gulf Coast as shrimping, and the rebuilding began immediately. Today, the numbers for both tourism and fishing are equal, if not ahead, of pre-Katrina.

Madrid - Traveling through Spain

Written by

Europe-SpainMadrid is still the number one destination for American travelers to Spain -- both for tourism and business. Based upon a recent four-day visit, I can appreciate the city’s ongoing popularity.

Since the 15th century, when Christopher Columbus sailed under the auspices of the King and Queen of Spain, the country has left an indelible footprint on world history.

Based on its colonization of Central and South America, the Spanish language is the national language spoken in a dozen countries outside of Spain.

Not only is Madrid one of the world’s most impressive cities with its unique and monumental buildings and museums, its wide boulevards, and impressive parks and gardens, the city offers more than four hundred hotels, including seven with the highly-coveted 5 star rating.

Walking Tours Through Italy

Written by

Europe-ITALY
Americans are fast becoming aware and choosy about wellness. They practice some “good habits” at home and try now, more than ever, to infuse their vacations with some of the same. According to SpaFinders’ latest surveys, an overwhelming majority of respondents indicated they would choose vacations in which they could at least follow a healthy regimen, although not necessarily a hard adventure or extreme sport, but to try not to undo all of their at-home routines. They are looking for balance and enjoyment, but not necessarily excess.

Beautiful Belize

Written by

Latin-Belize
Belize offers two realities: Jungles where you can hear the roar of howler monkeys and stay in rooms that make you feel like you’re at luxury summer camp - where you can disconnect from 24-hour media and other noise pollution, and the glowing aqua shore where you can lean against palm trees on a beach that retains its wild outlines and enjoy a pina colada. Belize offers both those experiences. Start in the jungle with rigorous hiking, biking, swimming, bird watching and other activities and end the trip with relaxation, snorkeling, a fishing excursion perhaps or a trip to a high-end spa.
