China River Cruises: A Growing Market

Written by
As cruising the great rivers of the world has become the fastest growing segment of the cruise industry, the great rivers of China have become increasingly popular, attracting not just the typical river cruise passenger - mature, well-educated, well-traveled - but also younger travelers in search of adventure.  Judging from feedback on various cruise blogs, what passengers like about China river cruises is the ease of travel that is offered. In the hands of skilled (often multilingual) cruise directors, they do not have to cope unaided with a difficult language, unfamiliar cuisine or a culture they may not understand. Equally…
Summer is always a busy season for ski/snowboard resorts. That’s when they beef up snowmaking capabilities, modernize lifts, upgrade restaurants, negotiate with airlines for more flights, and design new programs to entice winter visitors, including those who don’t ski but enjoy off-slope activities and events.  This season is the first time four top independent resorts in the west are partnering to sell a combination ticket. The new Mountain Collective unites Alta, Utah; Aspen/Snowmass, Colorado; Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows, Lake Tahoe, in a joint ticket that offers two days of skiing at each destination, for $349, plus unlimited…

Wandering Through Fairy Tales in Germany

Written by
Rapunzel, Cinderella and Red Riding Hood are not polychromatic Walt Disney creations. No, these familiar stories and dozens more are ancient Germanic and European legends, transformed by the Brothers Grimm in the early 1800s into fairy tales.

Chile A Land of Plenty

Written by
Due to its long and narrow shape, Chile is a land of extremes. Stretching from the Andes Mountains to the very southern tip of the continent, each region of Chile is unique and full of natural beauty. In the far north is the Atacama Desert, the most arid in the world. In the south, the climate is cold and wet, giving way to lakes and rivers. In the middle, the climate can fall anywhere between the two. So for travelers looking to get the most out of their vacation, Chile is the place to go. From vineyards, to hip cities,…

Written by
With world-class museums and storied biblical sites, bustling markets, and restaurants offering everything from hummus and falafel to gourmet Mediterranean fare, Tel Aviv and Haifa draw thousands of visitors to Israel each year. Beyond these cities lie historic sites like Caesarea, Herod the Great’s ancient port, and the Galilee region, whose lush beauty inspired Jesus as well as the early Jewish rabbis and mystics who created the Kabbalah. En route, travelers relax in grand hotels and resorts, including a luxurious organic farm nestled in the hills.

More For My Bucket List

Written by
While reading the stories in this issue of JAX FAX, I added a few more destinations to my “Travel Bucket List.” These are the journeys for someday - places I’d really like to see at some point in the future. As for today, I am too busy with work, the kids, the house and those countless other reasons we put off the things we really desire. As you might imagine, being the editor of JAX FAX and reading so many fantastic articles every month, my travel bucket list grows longer with each issue.
