No doubt you can guess that the mystique that surrounds the beautiful Fijian Islands is also the perfect formula for a honeymoon. Whether it’s a laid back secluded trip for two or getting to know the locals, 333 islands dotting the Pacific Ocean like jewels offer it all. You can do it all too, but plan to spend no less than a week when visiting.
Deciding which island is the perfect one might not be so easy, but most visitors choose one or two different islands and then take the time to visit each one for two or three nights. Start with arrival at the airport in Nadi, a good place to have a rest before heading off to a more far flung destination might be The Orchard. The Orchard offers the ultimate day room for early morning or late night flights (most flights from America are early morning and late night) and breakfast and lunch is also available for those just
To really acclimate to the island, take a few days at a property like the Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa. Located on what is called “the world’s best beach” the area where the property is located is ultra-remote on Natadola Bay. Designed in the traditional layout of a Fijian Village, the grounds span 35 acres with a number of open spaces, and acommodations feature an uber-hip modern decor, the two combine nicely at this luxury property.
After a few nights of solitude, travelers looking for activities will want to move on to a destination like Castaway Island Resort. It’s a one-hour drive to the Denarau Marina for a boat ride to Castaway Island. Opt for a two night stay, there is so much to see and do while visiting. Rooms (or bure) on the water are more expensive, but since it is Fiji, you want to get an island experience, and that means views of the ocean. Each bure has thatched roofs and high, vaulted ceilings. Castaway Island Resort is located on a private island, 174 acres covered with tropical rainforest and surrounded by white beaches and coral reefs. Activities are diverse; from champagne picnics to dinner at water’s edge, to water sports like snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaking or parasailing.
For a completely different experience, move on to one of the smaller island in Fiji. My recommendation is taking a short flight to an island called Taveuni for a stay that is all about peace and relaxation. Many travelers stop at this island resort before heading to Qamea Resort and Spa, reachable by boat from Taveuni.
At Qamea Resort and Spa, guests stay in Fijian-styled huts. Daily newsletters tell what the day will hold - from specials at the spa, to nature walks, to guided snorkeling trips. Seclusion is the name of the game, even cell phones don’t work here.
In Fiji you really are blessed with some of the most gorgeous scenery in the world, so in the end, it’s all about Lomani and Demeni, Fijian words meaning pampered, cherished and cared for. Indeed, on all of the islands of Fiji, you really will feel like the most special person in the world.

For another very special South Pacific honeymoon destination option, consider the French islands of New Caledonia. This group of South Pacific islands offers honeymooners spectacular beaches, with opportunity to dive along The New Caledonia Barrier Reef, second in length only to Australia’s Great barrier Reef. The reef surrounds Grand Terre, which is New Caledonia’s largest island, as well as several smaller islands. The 9,300 square mile lagoon formed by the reef is included on the UNESCO world heritage list.
Le Meridien Noumea offers guests a lagoon front location, just ten minutes from the Noumea city center. The resort provides the opportunity to enjoy watersports including wind surfing and snorkeling. Also on property are a casino, wellness center, pool and tennis courts, as well as four on-site restaurants. Le Meridien also has another New Caledonian location on Isle of Pines.
Also in Noumea is the L’Escapade Island Resort with bungalow styled rooms, with a choice of a garden view, sea views or over water accommodations. All views are stunning here, and perfect for a romantic honeymoon.
Air Calin is the international airline of New Caledonia. They have recently opened the new Hibiscus lounge at Tontouta airport in Noumea for Hibiscus and Abonnes customers.
