New Things to See in Israel’s Old Places

Written by
While standing in front of the cascading gardens at Israel’s Baha’i Temple in Haifa, something made me stop and stare. Wait, when were all of these beautiful, ascending gardens and fountains added? Such a reaction is common among people making a return trip to Israel. New things keep popping up in old places, which is why my third Israeli trip was so rewarding.

Family Cruising On The Rise

Written by
According to Cruise Line International Association, family cruising is one of the fastest growing segments in the industry. Cruise lines also reported more than a 50% increase in families sailing with children under the age of 3. Family cruises have long represented good value, but with the growing number of U.S. ports, millions of Americans are within driving distance of such cities as Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Galveston, Baltimore and Miami - allowing them to bypass the cost and tedium of air travel and enjoy a “no fly” vacation at sea. But to create the perfect match for…

The Best Leaf Peeping is in New England

Written by

While kids walking along the sidewalks revel in kicking and crunching the crispy tree remnants, homeowners and landscapers lament the acres and acres of leaves that trees shed before winter hibernation.

Developments and Tourism in Korea

Written by
Since May 12 this year, South Korea has been hosting the 2012 Yeosu Expo (, an international exposition that addresses the important theme of “The Living Ocean and Coast: Diversity of Resources and Sustainable Activities.” Contrary to what many people think, an “international exposition” is different from a world exposition. The latter is greater in scale and takes place every five years. The last World Expo was in Shanghai, and the next one will take place in Milan in 2015 with the theme “Feeding the Planet: Energy for Life”.

A History Lesson in Zimbabwe

Written by
A stone’s throw from my luxury tent at The Hide Safari Camp in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe, over two dozen elephants squirt water into their mouths as they splash in the lake. ( The night is so clear and moonless that the Milky Way looks painted in the heavens. Sleep can occur once I return home. At this moment, the circle of life is being orchestrated right off my deck.

Travel Association Congress

Written by
A village woman pours water over my hands from a large kettle as I duck into the hut. On my handmade wooden plate, crocodile, goat meat, and guinea fowl are heaped, as well as cooked cornmeal (sadza), greens in peanut butter and squash. All 500 delegates from around Africa and the world take turns filing into this warm, tiny hut for lunch. We are guests of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) and are taking part in the Africa Travel Association’s (ATA) 37th Annual World Congress. This afternoon we are being treated to a Cultural Day in Ko Mpisi Village, a…
